We know of ancient Egyptians from the inscriptions on masonry along the Nile, and now the Arkansas River Trust is offering a similar form of immortality: engraved brick pavers on a river walk from the Steam Plant through Riverside Park.

We don't know what it cost an Egyptian to get his hieroglyph carved, but we do know modern prices -- a 4"x8" paver is $50, and an 8"x8" is $75. The engraved message can be two lines long, with a maximum of 20 characters per line.

The money goes toward two summer projects: building the walkway, as well as stabilizing the river bank on the north side of the park to make the river more accessible. The goal is 500 personalized bricks -- $18,000.
