I finally got around to your June issue after spending some time in Alamosa and taking the two train rides that you have written about.
I am really impressed by Ken Wright's review of 1491 by Charles C. Mann. I read the book but I got more out of the review than I did out of the book. He makes it very plain that there was civilization in the Americas before Columbus.
