Salida's attractions to retirees include a nearby ski area, scenery in abundance, housing cheaper than Aspen's, the hot springs pool, and abundant "inexpensive recreational opportunities for seniors."
Other places on the list were Boone, N.C.; Dahlonega, Ga.; Fredericksburg, Texas; Kennebunk, Maine; Melbourne Beach, Fla.; Natchitoches, La.; Sandpoint, Idaho; Yucca Valley, Calif.; and Yuma, Ariz.
