Advertising in Colorado Central

Sales Pitch: For less than a dollar a day, you can put your message in front of some great people -- our informed and literate readers who enjoy good writing about the people and places they care about.

We celebrate local lore and our regional history. We examine current political and cultural trends, and investigate the stories that lurk behind the easy headlines. We review books and videos about our part of the world, and we do it all with a sense of humor and perspective.

So, if you share our affection for the people and places of the Colorado where real people work and play, rather than the glittering resort belt, your business belongs in Colorado Central.

And, when you've got an ad in the current edition, we provide a free link from our web page: to your web page, your email address, or your address or phone number, as you prefer.

Circulation: Approximately 1,200. About 800 of these are paid subscriptions at $25 a year; the rest go on news racks between Interstate 70 and the New Mexico line amd are mostly distributed by Kent News Co. Some unsold copies are distributed, after their cover date expires, for free at restaurants, visitors' centers, and the like.

Schedule: The advertising deadline varies, but is always before the 5th of the prior month -- for example, March 5 for the April edition. The magazine is mailed from Salida on about the 20th of the prior month, and should be on the news racks by the last Tuesday of the prior month.

To be more precise, our deadline is 18 days before the next-to-last Tuesday of the prior month, and we put the imminent deadlines on our home page at www.cozine.com. The coming 12-month schedule is available if you click on "General Information" and then "Publishing Schedule"

Proofs: We endeavor to provide every advertiser with a proof prior to publication. The sooner we get the ad, the quicker we can get the proof. We can email them as PDF attachments.

Mechanical: Our sheet size is 7.75" x 10.5". The smallest ad we sell is 1/8 page (approximately the size of a business card). Our ad sizes are standardized, and the measurements follow:

(The Back Cover is charged as a Full Page. It is a somewhat different shape because we need to print our mailing indicia there. It is available on a first-come, first-served basis for each edition.)
The Pica used here is that used by most computerized typesetting programs (1/6 of an inch, or 0.1666... inch), rather than the traditional hot-type Pica of 0.16608 inch. Generally, this difference isn't enough to matter. The Inch and Centimeter dimensions are approximate, not exact, but again, this difference is seldom meaningful.

Color: We run full process color in each edition. For a $10 surcharge (not discountable), we can guarantee color for your ad. If you buy a full page, you get free color.

Position: We attempt to honor all requests for position, but cannot guarantee it. Besides, it's a small magazine, so every ad will get noticed.

Billing: We try to send out bills on the 25th of the month, and we hope you'll try to pay us by the 10th of the next month.

Disclaimer: Our liability for any ad is limited to the cost thereof. We reserve the right to reject any advertisement for any reason that suits us, or no reason at all.

Discounts: Each size has an open rate, which can be discounted as follows:

 5% for advance payment.
 5% for agreeing to run in at least three editions.
 5% for machine-readable or repeat.
for a maximum earned discount of 15%.

Recognized advertising agencies receive standard discounts.

Techie Stuff: If you want to send us an ad in machine-readable form vie an email attachment or on a CD, some of these methods work sometimes:

• PDF (Preferred) with text converted to curves.
• TIF 300 dpi grayscale or color.
• CorelDraw CMX or CDR file (which is what we use internally). Please let us know which fonts you use.
