Alberta L. Sampson

Alberta L. Sampson, 92, retired book cataloger at Haysville Community Library, passed away January 11, 2023. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am to 10:30 am, on Monday, January 16, at Haysville First Baptist Church. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, January 16, at Haysville First Baptist Church.

Alberta was born on January 20, 1930 in Wichita, Kansas, to Harley and Mildred Riggs. She was an only child and learned at an early age to entertain herself and make good use of her time. She was, from an early age, an avid reader and was especially interested in things historical in nature. On December 2, 1949 she married Ross Sampson. Together they had three children, Larry, Chris, and Sarah. During the 1960’s Alberta returned to college and obtained a Library Science degree. After doing some substitute teaching in the Haysville School District, she took a full-time position as the librarian at the Rex Elementary School in Haysville. She spent 15 years in that role before leaving to work with Ross in the plumbing business that Harley had started many years prior. After leaving the plumbing company, Alberta and Ross enjoyed traveling together. Between her travels with her parents and with Ross, Alberta had been to all 50 states in the US. Additionally, their international travels took them to Canada, to Mexico, to China and Israel. Alberta’s love of books and reading ultimately led her back to work. She spent her last 15 working years as the book cataloger at the Haysville Community Library.

Alberta was preceded in death by her parents Harley and Mildred Riggs and husband, Ross Sampson. She is survived by her son, Larry Sampson (Kelly); daughters, Chris Krise (Jim) and Sarah Sampson; grandchildren, Katie Johnson (Heath), Lindsay Buckert (Aaron), Jennifer Ruppert (Paul) and Josh Sampson (Susan); and great-grandchildren, Ty, Morgan and Lettie Johnson, Ashleigh Shay, Emma, Conner and Paige Ruppert, Jed and Meghan Buckert, Cam and Caden Sampson.
