Alta Verlin

December 27, 1933 — February 16, 2021

Alta Florene Verlin, Alta was born to Willie and Alta Brockleman on December 27, 1933 in Neosho Rapids, KS.  They moved to Hartford, KS later in life. They moved from Hartford to Emporia, KS in 1948.  Alta attended Hartford and Emporia schools.  She graduated from high school in 1951. She worked at Fanestil Packing and IBP for 24 years.
She was united in marrage to Edward F. Verlin on August 25, 1957. The have one daughter, Angela (David) Uttinger and one granddaughter, Courtney (Austin) Kroeger and great-grandson, Tidus D. Kroeger.
Alta was a homemaker and loved to cook.  She made all kinds of pies but her apple pie was the best.  Angela always had to have some pie crust with sugar on it.  On Christmas she always said she wanted the pie crust for a Christmas present.
Eddie and Alta liked to fix a Christmas get-together for all the neighbors on South Sylvan for Christmas.  They built their house at 213 S. Sylvan and always had Santa Claus for 30 years. What a wonderful time they had.
In June 2001 they sold their home in Emporia and bought a home in Valley Center, KS.  Eddie always went to Abilene school and walked Courtney home after school.  Alta and Eddie really enjoyed her and her family.  They enjoyed going to San Antonio, TX for cheerleading with her and her mother on the bus with about 25 other girls  when the girls were around 12 or 13 years of age.
For Alta and Eddie’s 40th wedding anniversary they went on a 12 day cruise to Alaska and several trips after that with their Sunday School Class from the church. What a good time they had!
They are very proud of the daughter and her family. Angie has always been ready to help, even though she was busy with being a cardiac nurse.
Alta made pies for other people, also.  She was a member of United Methodist Women, Class President of Sunday School and crocheted afghans for the Fall Bazaar.
In the last few years of her life she had health issues, but, thank God she had a good caretaker, her husband of 63 years.
Alta also worked for the Valley Center Schools as a Lunch Lady for 12 years. She really enjoyed and loved to see the little kids.
Alta will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends.
