Anne Nicholas

Anne Louise Marsh Nicholas passed away on Monday, August 31, 2026, in Wichita, Kansas.

Born in December 1946, in Bryan, Texas, her life journey began as the third of six children born to Denver Curtis Marsh, Sr. and Alzada Wells Marsh. She spent her formative years on a cotton farm outside Waxahachie, Texas, where she learned the values of compassion, friendship, hard work, and resilience. She graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1964 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from the University of Texas at Austin in 1968. She later earned a Master of Education from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas.

Anne married her college sweetheart, Richard Alan Nicholas, in 1970. Their beloved family includes their only child, Laura, her husband, Brian Hupach, and two beautiful granddaughters, Brianna and MaKaya.

She spent more than 30 years teaching English, reading, and home economics in Austin and San Antonio, Texas, and Evansville, Indiana. Anne was known for her quirky sense of humor and loved pranking family and friends. She had a myriad of hobbies including cooking, sewing, gardening, painting, traveling, and collecting McCoy pottery. She enjoyed growing African violets and was very active in the First African Violet Society of Denton (FAVSD), the Lone Star African Violet Council (LSAVC), and the African Violet Society of America (AVSA). She was a Past President of both FAVSD and LSAVC and served on the AVSA Board of Directors. She was also an AVSA Master Judge Emeritus.

Family was the focus of Anne’s world. She is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of nearly 50 years, and her youngest brother, William Wells Marsh. She is survived by her cherished daughter, son-in-law, and two granddaughters of Wichita, Kansas. Surviving siblings include Denver Marsh, Jr., of San Angelo, Texas, Charles Marsh and wife, Tanoa, of San Angelo, Texas, Julia Marsh Klepac of Pflugerville, Texas, and Frank Marsh and wife, Linda, of Dripping Springs, Texas.

Our family thanks Larksfield Place Assisted Living and Health Care Center and Interim HealthCare in Wichita, Kansas, for their dedicated care and support. A Celebration of Life will be held in Denton, Texas, at a later date. Anne will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Park, Denton, Texas.
