Barbara Rotramel

November 15, 1950 — January 20, 2020

Rotramel, Barbara Ann Standiferd , 69, loving wife, sister and friend, died January 20, 2020. Services will be held at a later date this spring.

Barb was born in Emporia, KS, on November 15, 1950. Soon after graduating from Emporia High School in 1968, she began her career as a telephone operator at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. When the company restructured she transferred to Wichita where she worked until her retirement in 2001.

If you needed anything, Barb was always first in line to help with a huge smile on her face. Her generosity extended well beyond family to a myriad of friends and neighbors who she treated as family. Known as Aunt B. to her family, she was affectionately called Grandma by many children and young people. Barb had many cousins who were special to her, and she always looked forward to the Cousin Reunions. Extremely dear to Barb was her group of girl friends, EGG Wild; Emporia High grads who met monthly for Taco Tuesday.

Aunt Barb was always inviting and cheerful, and when she walked into a room her laughter and energy was infectious. She readily connected with her great nieces and every visit was filled with fun and creative experiences. Barb enthusiastically supported ‘her kids’ in any activity or sport in which they participated. She was an avid fan and so proud of their accomplishments.

An accomplished seamstress and quilter, she will be remembered for her creative talents especially for her expertise in silk ribbon and also machine embroidery. She had an eye for color and a knack for design and was asked to share her knowledge by teaching classes at sewing centers. She created hundreds of monogrammed and embroidered items; the beaded, satin ring pillows she made for weddings were truly works of art.

Barb loved a good time and wanted those around her to have fun also. Her house could be a beehive of activity as the garage door was always open with Barb and Charlie sitting there ready to greet anyone who would stop in. Barb’s passing will leave a huge hole in the hearts of many, many people as she absolutely made a difference.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Cecelia Standiferd and stepson, Mike Rotramel. Survivors include her husband, Charles; stepson, Ted (Tammy) Rotramel, all of Wichita; sisters, Linda (Lynn) Davis of Manhattan, KS and Jeannie (John) Jenkins of Plano, TX; brother, Robert (Nick) Standiferd of Wichita; grandson, Teddy Rotramel of Wichita; nephew, Adam (Charlotte) Jenkins of Lawrence, KS; niece, Alison (Mark) Hough of Leawood, KS; great nieces, Janey Hough of Leawood, KS and Celeste Jenkins of Lawrence, KS; special aunt, Winky Bush of Emporia, KS; brothers-in-law, Don (Cindy) Rotramel of Virginia and David Rotramel of North Carolina; and sister-in-law, Pam Pose of Cheyenne, WY.
