Betty Jane Holterud Schultz, 84, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025, in Wichita, Kansas.
Born July 10, 1941, in Fargo, North Dakota, Betty grew up in Minnesota, attending school in Duluth and later studying Home Economics at the University of Minnesota Duluth.
In 1962, she married Stuart Johnson, and together they had two children while living in Tacoma, Washington; Detroit, Michigan; Minnetonka, Minnesota and Moorhead, Minnesota. As a mother, Betty was a room mother, Brownie leader, and creator of the best Halloween costumes-she had a gift for making every occasion special.
As the children grew, Betty, then a single mother, began working at Hudson Foods in Fargo. In 1978, she married Darrell Schultz, and the couple soon moved to McPherson, Kansas. There, Betty launched Decor on Wheels, a decorating business, and later purchased and renamed a local furniture store Classic Furniture. She operated both businesses until 1988, when she and Darrell moved to Boise, Idaho.
In Boise, Betty sold Carlisle clothing and enjoyed golfing. She and Darrell traveled extensively for work, and whenever possible, with friends and family for the joy of sharing new places and experiences. Upon retirement, they returned to the Midwest and settled in Wichita to be closer to children and grandchildren.
Betty had a natural talent for making things beautiful, from homes and parties to everyday moments. She loved to entertain, cherished her friends and family, and was known for her infectious laugh, impeccable style, and boundless energy.
She is survived by her daughter Laurie Boorigie of Wichita, Kansas; daughter- in-law Linda Johnson of Goodhue, Minnesota; stepson Ron Schultz of Fargo, North Dakota; stepdaughters Mary Kuzel (Russ) and Kathy Magness (Matt), both of Fargo, North Dakota; and Karen Dalton of Coppell, Texas; along with 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Darrell, son Brett Johnson and parents Roy and Jennie Holterud.
