Bonnie was born to Waco and Lucy Johnson in Timbo, Arkansas on April 2, 1933, in a little log cabin. The first of 3 daughters, Bonnie was born during the Great Depression when economic hardships and poverty were the way of life for so many. The entire family worked hard on their farm and traveled quite a bit for work as well. Some of that work would take them to different states. California was one state they lived in for a while and Bonnie became very involved in the church. She was baptized in the Salton Sea and seriously considered becoming a missionary.
They moved back to Arkansas where Bonnie graduated high school as Salutatorian in 1951. She worked for the Department of Agriculture after high school, and then the family moved to Wichita, Kansas where she met her future husband, James W. Patterson, known as "Bud" to his friends and family. They married on May 30, 1953, and had three children: James W., Alicia D., and Kip A.
After traveling the first several years of their marriage, they settled back in Wichita, KS for the duration of their lives. Bonnie lost her husband "Bud" or "Pat" at the age of 45. She never dated or remarried. She loved to be busy traveling and building a beautiful screened-in porch for her home and her parent's home. She loved spending time with her family and being a devoted, faithful member and Deaconess of South Riverside Baptist Church for the past 40 years. She taught Vacation Bible School to many young people over the years and sang and played her guitar and autoharp during music worship. She loved the Lord, her family, her church, and traveling.
