Bruce Charles Brown, age 64, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 21st, 2025. He battled myelofibrosis. Bruce was born on February 20th, 1961, in Wichita, KS to Charles Reiff Brown and Theresa (Greenhaw) Brown. He graduated from Great Bend High School (1979), Oral Robert’s University (1983), and Pepperdine University Law School (1986), including a semester at Oxford University.
Bruce practiced law and started his law practice as Assistant District Attorney in Woodward, Oklahoma (1986), Assistant District Attorney in Tulsa (1988). He served as an attorney in the U.S. Army JAG Corps (1990) until he became a prosecutor for the Salina Municipal Court (1994). He moved to Wichita as a prosecutor for the Wichita Municipal Court (1995) and appointed as judge of the Wichita Municipal Court (1997-2009). Bruce was elected (2009-2025) as a Sedgwick County District Court Judge.
Bruce faithfully served 28 years in the U.S. Army (4 years active, 24 years Reserves) even when it meant he sacrificed time away from his family. He loved adventures and ice cream! He traveled as far as Tibet and had multiple adventures in the Army. Bruce followed in his dad’s footsteps getting his pilots license and loved flying.
Bruce attended River Community Church and invested in men’s lives every week. He met Rachel at River in 1994 and they married shortly after Rachel returned from Turkey on December 30, 2000 They enjoyed adventures together and summer vacations in Colorado with their family. Bruce loved his dogs and his pet pig. But the joy of his life were his children and his first granddaughter Scottie. He never missed a chance to cheer them on at a race or a big life event.
Bruce felt a calling from God to find a job in ministry after he retired as a District Court Judge. He had started classes at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary the year before his diagnosis.
Preceded by his father, Dr Reiff Brown (2025), Bruce is survived by mother, Theresa, Rachel wife of 24 years, children Asher (April), Lucy (Charlie)and youngest Macy, and granddaughter, Scottie, siblings Brent (Dana) Brown and Lori (Ryan) Ranker.
Bruce fought the good fight, he kept his faith, and he finished his race with peace with Jesus.
A Celebration of Life will take place at 10:00am on Saturday, August 30th, at Olivet Baptist Church. There will be a time to greet the family prior to the service, beginning at 9:30am. Burial will follow the service at Kensington Gardens. In celebration of Bruce’s life please wear celebratory colors to the service!
