Carol Ann Bacon

Carol Ann Bacon, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on October 4, 2023, at the age of 77. She was born on May 26, 1946, in Dodge City, Kansas to Claud and Esther DeWitt. With profound sadness but deep gratitude for her life, we celebrate the loving and nurturing spirit that Carol brought into our lives.

Carol's love for family traditions was unparalleled. One of our fondest memories is how much she cherished our annual Christmas traditions. Making special Christmas cookies that were passed down from her mother was a must-do activity during the holiday season. Every Easter, we would indulge in the joy of decorating eggs, cookies, and hunting for Easter eggs together as a family. These cherished moments created lasting memories that will be treasured forever.

As a dedicated wife and mother, Carol's priority was always caring for her family. After many years working at Coleman, she made the decision to retire and devote herself full-time to raising her children. Her presence was felt not only in her own family but also within the community. Carol had an incredible gift for nurturing others' children while her own kids were young. Her selflessness knew no bounds as she gladly welcomed others into her heart and home.

Carol's love extended far beyond her immediate family; it radiated outwards to embrace everyone she met. Her warm and inviting demeanor ensured that there wasn't a stranger in her heart. It wasn't uncommon for Carol to strike up a conversation with someone she had just met in the morning only to have them leave as lifelong friends by the end of the day. In fact, she had friends from all walks of life who held a special place in her heart.

Among Carol's closest friends were Lisa and Shelly. Lisa entered Carol's life when she bought her first poodle, and their bond grew unbreakable over time. Similarly, Shelly became an instant friend when Carol’s parents became residents in Shelly’s home. These incredible individuals would remain Carol's best friends for life, always there to support and uplift eachother.

Carol met Tommy Bacon, her loving husband of 43 years, at a church they both attended. Their love story blossomed into a beautiful partnership filled with understanding, compassion, and unwavering commitment. Together, they built a loving home and upbringing for their children. Tommy was Carol's rock, bringing joy and love to their journey together.

Carol was known for her vivacious personality and infectious sense of humor. She loved playing jokes on people and creating moments of laughter and joy. To meet Carol was to remember her forever; she had a captivating presence that brightened any room.

A true social butterfly, Carol valued the connections she made with others. Her genuine care for everyone she knew was evident in her love and devotion. Countless individuals have shared touching stories of how Carol provided daily guidance, lending a listening ear, and extending a comforting shoulder to lean on. She loved people unconditionally, embodying the essence of compassion and kindness.

If there was such a thing as a professional shopper, Carol would undoubtedly be at the top of the list. She indulged in the thrill of shopping, with purses, shoes, and clothing being some of her favorite finds. Her impeccable fashion sense shone through as she effortlessly matched every outfit with coordinating accessories.

Sports held a special place in Carol's heart. She found immense joy in watching her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews play sports. Whether it was cheering from the sidelines or attending their games with unwavering support, she embodied the role of the proudest cheerleader—instilling confidence and love through every match or competition.

Carol's love for animals extended to her beloved poodles. These furry companions were not only pets but cherished members of the family who brought immeasurable joy and companionship into Carol's life.

Among Carol's proudest accomplishments was her role as the matriarch of our family. She embraced this responsibility wholeheartedly, ensuring that love, care, and support were constantly bestowed upon everyone. As her children grew up, she gracefully transitioned to becoming a pillar of support for her parents when their health began to decline. Carol dedicated herself to their well-being, ensuring they were always surrounded by love and tenderness.

Carol is survived by her adoring spouse, Tommy Bacon; her daughter Kim and son-in-law Jeff Gilchrist, along with their children Jayden, Jackson, and Joshua Gilchrist; her son David Bacon and granddaughter Morgan Bacon; her brothers Don DeWitt and Scott (Jan) DeWitt; her niece Deirdre and nephew Brad Newcomer, along with their children Ashley, Brendan, and Logan; her niece Nicole and nephew Aaron Cox, along with their children Caitlyn Morris, Braeden Morris, Dylan Cox, and grandchild Atticus; her nephew Zach and niece Julie DeWitt, along with their children Abby, Lizzy, and JoJo. Carol was preceded in death by her father Claud DeWitt, mother Esther DeWitt, sister-in-law Margaret DeWitt, and grandson Lucas Bacon.
