In Loving Memory of Carol Jean Kerns
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carol Jean Kerns (Harms), age 70, of Wichita, Kansas, who passed away on October 18, 2026.
Carol was born and raised in Sumner, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Dorlene (Stahlhut) Harms. She graduated from Sumner High School in 1974 and Young’s School of Beauty in 1975.
Carol built and operated a very successful antique and estate sale business in Wichita, Kansas, for many decades. She married Jim Kerns in May 1999, and they enjoyed their time together traveling, spending time with friends and family, and making memories.
Carol had a strong faith in Jesus and was a member of several churches throughout her lifetime. She loved to sing, laugh, and entertain, bringing her own special spirit to the people around her. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mama, I love you more.
Carol is survived by her daughter, Jo Marie (Chance) Byrd; her stepchildren, Kurt Kerns, Kelly (Amy) Kerns, and Janeen (Ed) Epps; her brother, Ken (Donna) Harms; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Kerns; her parents, Charles and Dorlene (Stahlhut) Harms; and her sister, Kay (Harms) Evans.
