Charles D. "Matt" Mattingly, Jr.

September 29, 1942 — June 2, 2022

Charles D. “Matt” Mattingly, Jr., 79, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, died June 2, 2022. A reception celebrating Matt’s life will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with remarks at 6:00 pm, on Friday, June 17, 2022 at the Cozine Life Events Center, 11500 E. 21st St. N.

Matt was born to Charles D. and Nancy (Hagny) Mattingly on September 29, 1942 in San Diego, California. He graduated from Wichita East High School in 1961. He attended Wichita State University and earned his bachelor's degree in business.

Matt was a man of enterprise and adventure.  He was most known for his work with Mattingly pools where he and his brother Jim created a company that built custom swimming pools in Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado, and even Kuwait.  Matt and Jim went on to wildcat for oil in Kansas and Oklahoma and continued their efforts in the swimming pool business with a pool supply import/export business.

In the spirit of personal adventure, Matt came upon the small town of Marble, CO when looking for a landing strip to land his Beechcraft Bonanza single-prop airplane.  To this day the Mattingly family keeps a residence in Marble where the family still gathers frequently, continuing the spirit of adventure and exploration in the mountains that he so dearly loved.

Matt was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Nancy Mattingly and his sister, Oakley Fox.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruth; sons, C. David (Mary) Mattingly and their children, Wyatt and Stella of Wichita, KS and John C. (Regan) Mattingly and their children, Will and Bo of Denver, CO; daughter, Annie (Lance) Gutsch and their children, Gatsby and Georgia of Denver, CO; brothers, Jim (Jan) Mattingly of Wichita, KS and Givin (Susan) Mattingly of Denver, CO; brothers-in-law, Dan (Jaylene) Huyett and David (DeLanah) Huyett; and beloved nieces and nephews.

A memorial has been established with Traditions Hospice. The Mattingly family would like to thank Brookdale East for the excellent care that they provided for Matt over the last 2 years of his life.
