Dan Peniston

Dan W. Peniston, 97, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 21, 2024. He was born in Jetmore, KS, on January 28, 1927. During the Great Depression, his family moved to Wichita, KS. Dan graduated from East High School and immediately enlisted into the Army in 1945. After being honorably discharged in 1946, he moved back to Wichita where his sister Shirley introduced him to Loretta Mae Sargeant. They married in 1951 and celebrated 72 years of marriage together. In 1963, he started his own business, Peniston Automotive and worked there for over 50 years. Dan and Loretta moved to Andover to raise their four children and led a full and active life. They had many friends from all walks of life: including church, supper clubs, bridge clubs, golf and different ministries. Dan served on the board of World Impact, the Elder Board of Central Christian Church and was a charter member of the Encouragers Sunday School class at church. He also had a passion for the His Helping Hands and the prayer ministry at Central Christian. His wife, Loretta was the love of his life. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he loved speaking about their successes. People were important to Dan and he treated everyone with kindness. He loved to listen to their stories and was generous in serving them through his business or at church. He lived by the verse Psalm 118:24,"This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." Dan was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Robert, Francis, John and sister Shirley Read and his wife Loretta. Survivors include his sister Lila Hole; children Steve and wife Brenda; Greg and wife Sue, Lori and husband Dennis Phillips; Brad and wife Michele; along with 17 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Celebration of Life services will be held at Central Christian Church on Friday, March 1 at 10:00 am.
