Daniel Northrop

March 15, 1936 — February 25, 2020

Daniel E. Northrop , 83, died February 25, 2020 at home in the care of Harry Hynes Hospice after a long and courageous battle with cancer.  Daniel was born to the late Earl and Gertrude (Tipton) Northrop in Old Lyme, Connecticut on March 15, 1936.  He met his wife of 61 years while proudly serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War in Ardmore, Oklahoma, earning a medal of good conduct and honorary discharge in 1958.  While in California, he attended college to study avionics and then headed back to Oklahoma City to start a family.  The couple were blessed with a son and daughter and moved to Wichita, Kansas to make it their home.  Daniel loved to travel and had a passion for airplanes and flying, which led to the career he enjoyed in avionics and aeronautical sales, working for Aero Commander and RCA Avionics here in Wichita.  Dan could fix just about anything and enjoyed a love and amazing talent for drawing and painting.  He was active in his children’s activities, playing golf and coaching soccer and was also involved in the United Methodist and Christian Church.  Services will be held at 10:00, Monday March 2, 2020 at Broadway Mortuary Chapel.  Burial will take place at 1:30, Monday March 2, 2020 at Grace Hill Cemetery in Perry, Oklahoma.  Mr. Northrop is survived by his loving wife, whom he married on January 2, 1959, Patricia (Kemnitz); daughter, Debbie (Mike Brown) Coan of Wichita; son, Doug (Tammy) Northrop of Wichita; brother, Melvin Northrop of Old Lyme, CT; grandsons, Patric Northrop of Wichita, Nathan Northrop of Wichita, Randy (Ashley) Barnes of Wichita; granddaughter, Samantha (Andrew) Reno of Wichita, grand-dog Abby, six great-grandchildren (with one on the way) and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Northrop and three sisters, Edith McDonald, Doris Day, and Joyce Northrop.  Memorials have been established with the Cancer Center of Kansas and Harry Hynes Hospice.  Services by Broadway Mortuary.
