Wichita lost one of its finest on Saturday, May 23, 2026, with the passing of David Eugene Weatherson, 82.
Born and raised in Wichita, he was the oldest of 6 children. He graduated from North High School and received a business administration degree at Wichita State University. His career began at Western Lithograph, where he held the position of Director of Operations. After 16 years he decided to start his own specialty printing company, Prestige Graphics, in 1978. Prestige became a major subcontractor to Hallmark Cards. He and son Dave II ran the company until 2017.
Everything he did was planned and executed with care and precision, including his own passing. He even specifically mentioned encouraging people to dress casually (business casual) and drive their classic cars or Corvettes to the service if they wished to.
David’s many diverse interests included fly fishing, flying helicopters and airplanes, boating, playing tennis, racquetball, restoring classic cars and rebuilding old gas pumps.
David’s life did not begin with great advantages or easy opportunities. From humble beginnings, he built a life of extraordinary success through perseverance, honesty, and hard work.
His greatest legacy was the way he treated others – with kindness, respect, and unwavering integrity. A friend to all who knew him, he will be remembered not only for what he achieved, but for the character and generosity that defined his life.
He served on the Boards of Twin Rivers Swim Club, Wichita Children’s Home, and the WSU Shocker Athletic Scholarship Organization. He was a season ticket holder and avid supporter of the WSU basketball and volleyball programs.
David considered his greatest blessing in life to be his children, Dave II, and Wendy Weatherson, and his marriage to his loving wife, Shari, of 25 years. David and Shari traveled extensively and thoroughly enjoyed life together.
A cancer diagnosis in 2021 began a battle David ultimately could not win. Shari’s steadfast devotion and caregiving became his rock of support throughout those difficult years.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Frances Weatherson.
He is survived by his wife, Shari Weatherson; son, David (Susan) Weatherson II; daughter, Wendy Weatherson; siblings Gail (Mark) Hartke, Terry Weatherson, Nancy (Roy) Richardson, James (Ann) Weatherson, and Susan (Tim) Larrabee; grandchildren Harleigh (Jordan) Ysidro and Shae (Tyler) Hutto; and great-grandson, Waylon Ysidro.
A reception celebrating David’s life will be held Friday, June 12, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Cozine Life Center. Family remembrances will begin at 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wichita Foundation (Fund 316) in his memory. You may mail contributions to: The Wichita Foundation (Fund 316), 303 S. Broadway #100, Wichita, KS 67202.
