Diane Schmitz

Diane C. (Miller) Schmitz passed away on August 21, 2025—her 83rd birthday—in Wichita, Kansas. She was born in 1942 and raised in Ohio by her parents, Harry and Ruth Miller, alongside her beloved younger sister, Cheryl (Miller) Mickunas.

In 1968, Diane graduated from Youngstown University School of Nursing and later earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Case Western Reserve University. She remained in Ohio, specializing in psychiatric nursing, until visiting her family led her to meet Edmund Schmitz of Menahga, Minnesota. They married in 1983 and later settled in Medina, Ohio, where Diane continued her nursing career.

In her 60s, Diane transitioned to home health care and also volunteered at Oaks Family Care Center, where she coordinated volunteer training and provided individual pregnancy support.

A woman of deep faith, Diane loved the Lord and found comfort in Scripture. She was an avid reader of Christian books, novels, and cookbooks. She also enjoyed calligraphy, cooking with fresh produce from their garden, and caring for animals. Over the years, she was “mama” to several beloved dogs and cats. Together, she and Edmund co-owned Country Flower Honey Farm, selling honey and specialty bee boxes patented by Edmund.

Diane is survived by her husband, Edmund; her stepchildren Rosalie Eisenbart, Sharon Ramos, Edmund Jr. (Ramona), and Michael (Sonia) Schmitz; as well as grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Terry Mickunas; nephews Harry and Jac; niece Jenna (Chris) Garee; and great-nephews Grey and Kye.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Ruth Miller, and her sister, Cheryl (Miller) Mickunas.

Per Diane’s wishes, no services will be held. Memorial donations may be made to World Vision or the ASPCA. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Phoenix Hospice and Via Christi Village Ridge for their compassion and dedicated care.
