Donald Gragg, Sr.

October 5, 1939 — March 16, 2021

With a heavy heart, Don Gragg, with his wife Rebecca Gragg by his side, passed away on March 16, 2021.

Don was born in Wichita Kansas October 5, 1939 to Farris and Velma Gragg.  He graduated from East High and attended Wichita State University.

Not wanting to follow his parents in the family restaurant business, Don started working for Arnholz Coffee before working for Wheeler Kelly Hagney, selling real estate and then selling insurance.  He then dove into the political arena which was his true passion and was elected to the Sedgwick County Commission for two terms from 1979 – 1986.  After serving on the County Commission, he went to work for Governor Mike Hayden’s Administration in the Department of Urban Development.  Later in life he again returned to politics and was elected Township Trustee of Minneha Township.  Don never got tired of talking about all things politics, Wichita and Wichita State basketball.  He loved to go to the Wichita State Shockers basketball games and had season tickets for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rebecca Gragg; his daughter, Gretchen Johnson and son in-law Joel Johnson of Kansas City; son, Don Gragg II and daughter in-law Wendy Gragg of Santa Barbara; grandchildren, Seth Johnson and wife Lauren Johnson, Lucas Johnson, Landon Johnson, Grace Johnson, Alyssa Gragg and great grandchild, Hudson Grace Johnson.

A celebration of Don’s life will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, April 10, 2021 at the Church of the Magdalen. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with the Alzheimer’s Association and the Church of the Magdalen.
