Donald “Don” Windham, 84, of Wichita, was Promoted to Glory on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
Don dedicated his life to service — to his country, community, church, and his family. He began his career in public service with the American Red Cross before serving as a deputy with the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office and later retiring from the Eastborough Police Department. He also proudly served his country in the United States Navy. One of his most cherished recent experiences was participating in the Kansas Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., alongside his nephew, Danny — a memory he held close to his heart.
Don was a faithful member of Central Community Church and a devoted soldier of The Salvation Army. His faith guided his life, and his steady strength, kindness, and servant’s heart touched all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Fredeana (Levick) Windham; his parents, Roland and Inez Windham; and his nine siblings, Billy, Dorothy, Effie, Chubby, Mary, R.G., Elizabeth, Beverly, and PeeWee.
He leaves behind daughters, Starla Clithero (fiancé Allen Hanton) and Angela (James) Gaito; grandchildren, Rachel (Thomas) Vasko, Zachary (Centennial) Newby, Bryce Clithero, and Hannah Newby; and great-grandchildren, Stella Vasko and soon-to-arrive Thomas Vasko III.
“Uncle Donny” was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by 34 nieces and nephews, along with more than 100 great-, great-great-, and great-great-great-nieces and nephews.
Don was the bedrock of his family — dependable, loving, and steadfast through every season of life. His sense of humor, irreverence, and longtime role as the “family enforcer” will live on in the stories and laughter shared by those who loved him. His legacy of service, faith, and devotion will continue to live on in the many lives he touched.
