Doris Garrett

March 24, 1928 — April 10, 2018

Garrett, Doris Jean, 90, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2018.  She was born March 24, 1928 in Council Grove, KS, the youngest of six children.  After graduating from Council Grove High School, Doris worked at Fairmont Creamery where she met Allen.  They were married August 8, 1948 and in 1954 moved to Wichita, KS. where they raised two daughters.  Doris and Allen were blessed with 63 years together.  She enjoyed the care and friendship at Andover Court Assisted Living the past two years.  Doris spent most of her life serving others from family to neighbors to friends.  She was PTA officer and deacon and treasurer of the women's group in her church for many years.  We will always remember that last smile, that last hug, that last "I love you."  We will always treasure all the moments of lessons taught, of comfort and understanding, of love given.  The laughter and tears, the gentle conversations and shared silences.  Our greatest blessing.  We are forever thankful she is our mom and grandmother.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Allen Lee Garrett; parents, Edward and Lillie Burnett; brothers, Linus, Alfred and Kenneth Burnett; and sisters, Jessie Nott and Alice Page.  Survivors include daughters, Shirley (Ron) Blanken and Kathy (Mark) Stone; grandchildren, Jennifer (Eric) Groen, Kyle (Amanda) Bradrick and Ryan (Kenya) Bradrick; great-grandchildren, Kilynn Groen, Tristan Groen, Aiden Bradrick and Reed Bradrick; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial to a charity of your choice.  Funeral Service will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 18, at Broadway Mortuary.  Interment to follow at 2 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Council Grove, KS.  Share condolences at www.CozineMemorial.com. Services by Broadway Mortuary.
