Doris Rush

Doris was raised on a farm near Amsterdam, Missouri. At a young age, she was already caring for elderly relatives and neighbors. Her willingness to help friends and family remained with her for life.

She married Howard Rush in 1956, and they shared 62 wonderful years together. Together they had three boys who were the joy of her life. Doris was born to be a mom. As the boys were growing up, the family spent many wonderful times camping, traveling to places around the country, and attending the many activities the boys were involved in.

The family were members of Dawson United Methodist Church, where Howard and Doris were always willing to help wherever needed.

After Edwin, Kendal and Ronald married, their wives became like daughters to Doris. She welcomed them into the family and treated them as her own. That love extended to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well. Doris held a special place in the hearts of everyone who knew her.

Doris was also well known for the beautiful doilies and scrubbers she crocheted. Family and friends have many of her handmade creations to cherish and remember her by. She also enjoyed sewing and cooking. She made countless meals for family gatherings, including the Rush Family Thanksgiving Reunions when it was held in her home.

During the last year, Doris lived at Rushwood Senior Living in Wichita, Kansas. She was loved by the staff and other residents, and she loved them in return.

The family would like to thank the staff at Rushwood Senior Living for the care they provided for her while she was there. They would also like to thank Dr. Baalman and the staff at Wesley Woodlawn Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association, the Alzheimer’s Association, or a Veteran Group.

Doris Marie Rush, 98, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2026. Doris was born on January 25, 1928 to parents, Charles and Ella Cowley in Butler, Missouri. She is preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Dr. Howard Rush; and siblings, Roy Cowley, Kenneth Cowley, Gerald Cowley, and Opal Armentrout. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Edwin and Beth Rush, Kendal and Tamera Rush, Ronald and Maria Rush; grandchildren, Kerry Bogart, Kendra and Galen Van Allen, Kristen Wooten, Ryan and Joanne Rush, Erica Rush, Jessica Rush, Gina and Dennis Burnett; and great-grandchildren, Addison Bogart, Jackson Bogart, Jaden Van Allen, Bretly Wooten, Bailynn Wooten, Lillian Van Allen, Blaiz Wooten, Harper Van Allen, Maggie Rush, Zoey Rush, Jocco Rush, Olive Rush, Lennox Rush, Jordyn Burnett and Emma Groth.

Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00pm, Monday, October 12th, at the Cozine Life Events Center. Funeral service will begin at 2:00pm, following the visitation. Burial at Kensington Gardens will immediately follow the funeral service.
