Dorothy Martin

August 21, 1930 — July 3, 2022

Dorothy Lee Martin was born on August 21, 1930 to Clarence and Blanche Blake of Maize, Kansas, the last of six daughters. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents and sisters Genevieve, Lucille, Vera, Willadean and Helen.

She grew up in Maize and later attended Wichita North High School by train where she met her future husband Paul Martin as his band played at a Valentine dance. High School sweethearts, they married on August 22, the day after her 18th birthday.

Paul continued to work as a musician his entire life and the couple opened and operated a successful business, New Blue Print, for many years. They were stalwart members of Bethany United Methodist Church and were involved in many activities, including the founding of the church Food Bank. After more than 50 years of marriage, Paul succumbed to an illness, prededing her in death.

The couple had two daughters, Sydney Dore and Nancy Montgomery. Sadly, Nancy succumbed to an illness in 2016.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Sydney, a grandson and two great-grandsons.
