Ellen Chlentzos, 96, passed away peacefully at her home in Wichita, KS, with family by her side. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt, and a friend to all.
Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Steven Chlentzos; parents, Alex and Mary Leopulos; and sister, Fannie Dulos.
She is survived by her son, Theodore Chlentzos (Wichita); grandson, Steven Chlentzos (Wichita); granddaughter, Alexandra (Don) Chlentzos; great-granddaughters, Adrianna, Alivia, and Alexis (Augusta); grandson, Alex Chlentzos; great-grandson, Arthur (Wichita); and sisters, Mandy Specht (Iola) and Connie Kentroti (Denver).
After the tragic death of her husband Steven in 1957, Ellen became a single mother and drew strength from her faith and her church community at Holy Trinity. Her belief in God guided her through life's challenges and gave her comfort and purpose.
She worked many years with Boeing and the U.S. Postal Processing Center to provide for her family. Despite the demands of her career, Ellen always made time for faith, family, and friends.
Ellen was always known for helping others. She never sought recognition, but she truly lived a life of kindness and service. Her greatest joy and mission in life were her grandchildren. She loved fashion and shopping, making sure her children and grandchildren were dressed for every holiday, church service, and special event.
She cared for her grandchildren more deeply than anyone will ever know. Allie and Alex will always remember the incredible Yia Yia she was to their children.
Another of Yia Yia's gifts was her cooking. She would make pastitsio, spanakopita, kourambiethes, and chicken pilaf. They were known for their exceptional taste, and no one has ever been able to duplicate them.
Ellen will be so deeply missed, but she also had a long life filled with love. She gave many people wisdom, strength, and joy.
Graveside service will be at 10:00am, Saturday, October 4, at Kensington Gardens.
