Eric Harris, a U.S. Navy veteran, electrical engineer, and devoted train enthusiast, passed away on March 23, 2026, following a battle with dementia. He will be remembered for his sharp mind, steady character, and the passion and determination he brought to all he pursued.

Eric was born in Ft. George, Maryland on November 20, 1949. Eric proudly served his country in the United States Navy, a commitment that reflected his sense of duty and discipline. He earned his degree in electrical engineering from the University of Denver and went on to dedicate his professional life to the field, where his skill and attention to detail earned the respect of colleagues and peers.

Outside of his career, he found great joy in his love of trains, even creating and running his own train show—something that brought enjoyment not only to him, but to many others who shared his interest.

He was also a competitive dirt bike and motocross racer, embracing both the thrill of the ride and the challenge of competition. In addition, Eric was a bluegrass guitarist, sharing his love of music with others and adding another dimension to his vibrant and engaged life. His drive, focus, and adventurous spirit were evident whether he was on the track, running trains, playing guitar or just immersed in his all his hobbies.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary (Sackreiter) Harris. He was preceded in death by his parents. Eric’s life was marked by faithful service, quiet dedication, a competitive spirit, and a deep commitment to the things he loved. He will be deeply missed by those who knew him.
