Ernest Milton Drowatzky

February 22, 1939 - September 16, 2026

Ernest Milton Drowatzky, a dedicated husband and father. He was a captain in the US Army, an educator, esteemed coach, and All-American swimmer. He passed away on March 1, 2025. Born on February 22, 1939, Ernie's passion for the Lord, family, swimming and teaching shaped countless lives throughout his life.

Ernie attended College Hill United Methodist Church and in later years Eastminster Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed spending time with family. He was also a biology and physics teacher at Wichita East High School and The Independent School, inspiring generations of students with his knowledge and enthusiasm.

The students really loved the square chicken egg story! As a coach, he earned the Kansas State High School Athletics Association Swimming Coach of the Year award in 1988. In March 2024, he was honored with induction into the Wichita East High School Athletics Hall of Fame.

Ernest was preceded in death by his first wife, Sheridan Ann Brandon. He is survived by his beloved wife, Becky Drowatzky, whom he married in 2011, as well as his son Eric Brandon Drowatzky, daughter Stacy Lynne Zimmer (husband Dean), son Clark Christopher Drowatzky (wife Becky), her daughter Anna Mick (husband Dion), and son Matthew Melton (wife Amelia). He cherished his role as a grandfather to Madison Osburn (husband Corbin), Garrett Zimmer, Gordon Zimmer, Luke Drowatzky, Kate Drowatzky, John Drowatzky, Savana Gardner (husband Logan) and Ashton Mick and as a great-grandfather to Brynley Osburn and Brock Osburn.Funeral Service 10:00am, Friday, September 25, 2026 at Eastminster Presbyterian Church. Graveside Service will be 1:00pm, Friday at Lakeview Cemetery.Ernest will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but for his unwavering dedication to God, family, education, and swimming. His legacy will live on through the lives he touched.
