Etta Allen (Caston) Enders, age 90, retired teacher, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed away quietly and peacefully, surrounded by her family on August 9, 2022.
Etta Allen Caston was born on November 12, 1931, in McComb, Mississippi to William and Catherine Cates Caston. Just prior to her freshman year in high school, Etta and her family moved to Independence, Kansas. Etta graduated from Independence High School in 1950. Following graduation, Etta married James (Jim) Vernon Enders on June 21, 1952. Etta served as a military wife for four years before she and Jim moved back to Independence. They both attended Independence Junior College for two years and then moved to Wichita, Kansas in 1961 to continue their education. Etta received a bachelor's degree in education from Sacred Heart and a master's degree in Education from Wichita State University. Etta taught for 19 years at Cleveland Elementary and another 9 years at Sunnyside Elementary School. She retired from USD 259 in 1990. After retirement, Etta and Jim enjoyed spending their winter months at their little place in Harlingen, Texas. The ultimate snowbirds, Etta and Jim maintained an active social life, playing bridge, enjoying movies and meals out with their friends and family. Etta was a charter member of Glenn Park Christian Church and more importantly, she loved Jesus and was always grateful for her many blessings. Etta is now reunited with her parents and Jim, her favorite dinner date and dance partner.
Etta is survived by her two sons, Michael (Johnnie) and Todd (Demetri) Enders; five grandchildren, Jared (Angie), Todd II (Courtney), Jacklyn (Adam), Dillon (Ashli), and Noah; thirteen great-grandchildren; brother Hoite Caston and friends and family too numerous to list but not forgotten. Etta's sweet spirit will be missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service to celebrate Etta's life will be held on August 15, 2022, at 10:00 a.m.. at Glenn Park Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, tributes may be designated to Glenn Park Christian Church, 2757 S. Glenn, Wichita, KS 67217 or Harry Hynes Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67202
