Eugene "Gene" Logan

Eugene Terrill Logan, known to family and friends as Gene, was born on October 15, 1933, in Wichita, the only child of Ira and Blanche Logan. Wichita and Salina, Kansas, were home to Gene for most of his life.

On August 11, 1956, Gene married the love of his life, Margaret Ellen Dixon. August, 2026 Gene and Margaret celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary—a remarkable milestone that reflected a lifetime of faith, devotion to family, shared joys and challenges, and countless memories.

Gene and Margaret raised four children and their family grew to include 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Gene served eight years in the United States Naval Reserve and graduated from Wichita State University with Bachelor of Science degrees in Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering.

Engineering was more than Gene’s profession: it reflected the way his mind worked. He loved finding solutions to problems, developing creative ideas, and figuring out how to turn those ideas into reality. A gifted inventor as well as an engineer, Gene held over a dozen patents. During his career, Gene worked for Cessna and Beechcraft, and also brought his engineering expertise to the agricultural industry. His entrepreneurial spirit eventually led him and Margaret to become co-founders of REMA Bakeware, where they introduced air-insulated bakeware to America. They invited Dick and Ann Barlow to join them on this exciting venture. In 1986 Gene was presented the Annual Governor’s New Product Award - by Kansas governor John Carlin. Gene later founded Sigma Industries where he designed heat control for the electric stove. And in 2019, Gene, along with Margaret, was inducted into the Salina, Kansas “Business Hall of Fame”.

Family was deeply important to Gene. He cherished time together and enjoyed creating lasting memories, including many special family vacations throughout the country. For Gene, these trips were about more than the places they visited – they were about being together and sharing experiences his children and grandchildren would treasure for years to come.

Gene fully believed in using what he had been given to serve others. In 1989, he and Margaret established The Logan Foundation to help non-profit organizations fulfill their missions.

For all that Gene accomplished and enjoyed, however, nothing was more significant than his decision to follow Jesus Christ. While attending a home Bible study led by Margaret’s mother, Lena, Gene made a commitment to Christ that would shape the rest of his life. His faith remained central throughout the decades that followed. He was actively involved in the church, including small-group Bible studies, and seldom missed a Sunday worship service.

Gene will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; an engineer, inventor, and entrepreneur who loved turning ideas into reality; a humble and generous servant who used his talents and resources to serve others; and, above all, a man whose faith in Jesus Christ guided him throughout his life.

Gene is survived by his wife of 70 years, Margaret Ellen (Dixon) Logan; their four children, Bob (Michele), Steve (Jennifer), Jim (Donna), and Jennifer Sue; 13 grandchildren, Benjamin, Elisabeth, Heather (Bryan), Alena (Jon), Emilie (Justin), Matthew (Ashley), Madeline (Tim), Paige (Luis), Jameson (Macey), Fiona, Mimi, TJ, and Amelia; and five great-grandchildren, Carter, Lolo, Jack, Lina and Gus.

A visitation with family and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct 16, at the Cozine Life Events Center, 11500 E. 21st St. N. The celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, Oct 17, at First Evangelical Free Church, 1825 N Woodlawn.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with Union Rescue Mission, 2800 N. Hillside, Wichita, KS 67219 and Gideons International, P.O. Box 13204, Wichita, KS 67213-0204.
