Florence was born in Westmoreland, Kansas on December 6, 1921, to her parents Luther and Ethel (Zabel) McGranahan. She graduated from Westmoreland High school, where she had played basketball and played center. She also played trombone in the school band. She continued her education in Topeka Kansas, where she attended Cosmetology school. She recently received a certificate of accomplishment for maintaining her cosmetology license for 75 years.
She married Vernon Earl (Bud) Titus in Wichita on May 29, 1942. Both she and her husband Bud worked at Beech Aircraft during the early years of their marriage. Florence has held many positions in her working career. She was a beautician in Topeka, Kansas. She worked at Tillies Flower Shop alongside Tillie Denton. She was a Book Keeper for Womer Investments, and The Kitchen Place both in Wichita. She worked as a seamstress for Easters upholstering.
Bud and Florence also owned and operated several businesses, Titus Motor company, Titus Chevrolet, Titus Firestone, Titus Furniture, Titus Garage and Used Cars, all located in the 1400 block of East Harry in Wichita.
She volunteered at Caldwell School in Wichita and was a Grandmother figure to Cindy’s kindergarten class, she also volunteered in the in the class and the library.
Our Titus family was the only “Titus” family in Wichita for many years.
Bud and Florence were members of the Moose lodge, and enjoyed all types of dancing including Square Dancing. They were excellent swing dancers, dancing at the Moose and the Trig Ballroom in Wichita. They Learned to square dance in the 50’s at the Moose, then took square dance lessons (taught by son Gary) again with the Westernaires Square Dance Club in Wichita. Florence was an excellent seamstress and designed and made Cindy’s Wedding dress, Lisa’s maternity clothes (first Grandson), and all of Cindy’s Square Dance dresses as long as she was able to sew. She recently asked us to bring her sewing machine to the care home because she had a new idea for a new dress. She was always ready to “GO”, she loved music programs, plays, Wings soccer and travel. If there was a family event, you better ask her to go.
Florence is survived by two sons, Gary L Titus (Cindy), and D. Brent Titus (Toni), six grandchildren, Shawn (Elise) and Jason Titus, Lisa (Scooter) Limes, Andy (Calah), Luke (Laura), and Clint (Kristen) Titus, eight Great grandsons, Kael & JD Titus, Caleb & Silas Limes, Matt & Freddie Barnett, Javan & Aaron Titus and three Great granddaughters: Emily Golden, Ava & Kenzie Titus.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years. She will be missed but she now rests in peace.
