Fr. Andrew L. Powell, 64, an Anglican Priest, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026. There will be a Funeral Service honoring his life on Tuesday, January 27th, 10:30 am, at Central Christian Church (Chapel), 2900 N. Rock Rd, Wichita, Kansas. A Memorial Service will also be held on Saturday, February 7th, 1:00 pm at St. Vincent Cathedral, 1300 Forest Ridge Drive, Bedford, Texas.
Fr. Andy was preceded in death by his parents, John Powell, Jr. and Therese Powell, and niece, Liza Marie Whitacre. He is survived by his brother, Hon. Anthony Powell (Betty); sister, Cecilia Whitacre; nieces and nephews, Katie Ostby (Cale), John Powell (Addison), Grace Hall (Jake), Tony Powell (Allison), Lauren Whitacre, and Max Whitacre; six great-nieces and great-nephews.
At the time of his death, Fr. Andy was Rector of St. John the Divine Anglican Church in Burkburnett, Texas. Fr. Andy previously served as Chaplin for the Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County in Ft. Worth, Texas, and as Rector of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church-Anglican in Grand Prairie, Texas. He also served as Assistant Rector of Christ Church Anglican and The Episcopal Church of the Holy Trinity, both in Midland, Texas. After graduating from seminary, Fr. Andy served as Curate for Grace Episcopal Church in Monroe, Louisiana.
Prior to becoming a priest, Fr. Andy served as Ministry Coordinator at Church of the Apostles in Fairfax, Virginia. He was also a congressional staffer for the House Foreign Affairs Committee and U.S. Representative William S. Broomfield.
Fr. Andy obtained his masters in Theology from Nashotah House Anglican Seminary in Nashotah, Wisconsin, his masters in International Affairs from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and his B.A. in International Relations and History from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Fr. Andy was born in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Fr. Andy was loved by all who knew him. He loved the Lord, history, sports—he frequently attended Dallas Stars hockey games with his brother and Texas Rangers games with his friend, Fr. Stuart Smith, and spending time with family. He enjoyed a good meal and serving others. Fr. Andy had a quick wit and a great sense of humor.
