Gary Gene McCarty

Gary Gene McCarty of Wichita, KS, passed away peacefully at home on April 13, 2026 at the age of 85.

He was born on December 16th, 1940 to Riley W. and Latha (McMichael) McCarty in Stafford, KS.

After graduating from Lakin High School and Fort Hays State University, he began a teaching and coaching career in western Kansas. After retiring from teaching, he worked as an insurance agent for Farm Bureau.

Gary was united in marriage to Deanne Smith on June 2, 1963. Together they shared 62 wonderful years. Their union was blessed with two children, Darin and Kelli.

Gary enjoyed golf and spending time outside with his family. He kept everyone fed poolside grilling hamburgers and hot dogs, often for family reunions and work gatherings. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a Shriner in Liberal and Wichita, KS.

He is survived by his wife Deanne, son Darin T. McCarty (Melissa) of Wichita, daughter Kelli R. Siefkes (Mark) of Overland Park; sister Carol Annis of Ulysses, KS; grandsons Travis, Aidan and Evan.

A memorial service honoring Gary will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at The Goddard Church, 300 N. Cedar, Goddard, KS.
