Glen Allen, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and skilled craftsman, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2025, in Wichita, Kansas. Born on July 25, 1944, in Kechi, Kansas, Glen was a proud member of the local community and cherished for his unwavering dedication to his family and friends.
Glen had a distinguished career in the printing industry, having worked as a Lithographic Printer and later serving as Night Shift Foreman at one of the largest printing companies in the area, Printing, Inc. He dedicated 38 years to the company before retiring, a testament to his strong work ethic and commitment to his profession. His expertise in the trade was recognized through his attainment of a Certificate of Accomplishment from the Department of Vocational Education, which he earned after completing a three-year course of study in printing upon graduating from East High School in 1962.
In addition to his professional life, Glen honorably served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1969 as part of the 9th Infantry Division in Vietnam. During this time, he carried out primary operations in the Mekong Delta area, earning medals for his demonstrated expertise with the M-16 rifle.
Glen was deeply rooted in his Swiss heritage and was admired for his wonderful sense of humor and gentle, kind spirit. He lived his life with simplicity, hard work, and an unshakeable belief in the importance of family. A loving husband to Karen Allen, he relished the moments spent with her and their family, especially enjoying lunches together that often extended to whimsical outings to garage sales and estate sales.
Together with Karen, who retired in 2013, Glen shared a mutual passion for antiquing, which turned into a small business at their booth in the local antique mall, Paramount West. Their shared adventures traveling out of state in search of antiques brought them joy and a deeper bond.
Glen’s proudest accomplishments extended beyond his professional endeavors. He was passionately skilled in various trades, including woodworking, restoring antique furniture, and picture framing. His mother affectionately described him as a Künstler—an artist and master craftsman—highlighting his exceptional talent in constructing frame moldings and restoring antique frames with meticulous care.
Glen is survived by his beloved wife, Karen Allen; his daughter, Kathy Hammar, and son-in-law, Roy Hammar; his son, Keith Allen, and daughter-in-law, Amanda Allen; and eight grandchildren: Sarah Allen, Jacob Allen, Tania Allen, Jaret Allen, Keatyn Allen, Andrew Hammar (Sidney), Ryan Hammar (Kyley), and Nathan Hammar (Emma). He was preceded in death by his mother Lydia Allen, father Charles Allen, and brothers Carlton and Carrol Allen.
His family will remember him fondly not just for his skills and achievements, but for the valuable lessons he imparted: that life is not measured by accolades, but by the kindness we show others. Known for saying “YOU BE CAREFUL” as loved ones departed, Glen exemplified a protective nature and deep care that will be missed dearly.
A funeral service will be held in his honor on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Wichita, Kansas, followed by a burial at Kechi Township Cemetery at 3:00 PM. Glen Allen leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a profound respect for family that will resonate through the lives he touched.
A memorial has been established with Alzheimer’s Association, 535 W. Douglas, Suite 150, Wichita, KS 67213.
