Glenda L. Burkett

Glenda L. Burkett, 65, retired, was born June 20, 1960, to Dale O. and Alberta I. (Maricle) Burkett in Salina, KS. She died February 4, 2026, in Wichita, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Alberta; sister, Diane M. Burkett; and brother-in-law, Michael B. Downing. She is survived by siblings, Janice A. Martens, Alice I. Downing, Gail E. Burkett (Dan Umansky), and Alan D. Burkett (Brian Allender); nieces and nephews, David M. Downing (Denise), Angela D. Griffith (Matthew), Benjamin D. Umansky (Lauren Alexanderson), Emily A. Umansky (Chris Newlin); great -nieces and nephews, Morgan Downing, Lauren Dormaier (Eli), Owen Downing, Olivia Griffith, Michael Griffith, Martin Newlin, Natalie Newlin; and best friend, Jeff Dater.

Glenda was a devoted animal lover whose compassion shone through in the care she gave to her cherished rescue pets: Reuben, Dakota, Riley, and Hudson. Her kindness reached beyond her home as she and her beloved Riley brought comfort to others, visiting hospitals and care facilities as a therapy dog team.

Glenda earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Wichita State University. She was a respected member of the Wichita financial and marketing communities, dedicating 45 years to the industry — 17 years at Emprise Bank (formerly Wichita State Bank), and 28 years at Credit Union of America. Serving as Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at both institutions, Glenda broke new ground as the first marketing professional hired by CUA, where she built a talented team and led the creation of the enduring “Welcome to Friendly” brand. Her warm personality perfectly embodied the spirit of that message. Glenda was a true leader, guiding others with empathy and heart.

Active in her community, Glenda served on numerous boards and volunteered for many non-profit organizations. She found joy in gardening, antiquing, genealogy research, traveling, cooking, cheering on Shocker basketball, playing the piano, and cherishing time with loved ones. She poured love into her family and always made time to be truly and joyfully engaged in the lives of her siblings, nieces and nephews, and their children. Her infectious laughter, radiant smile, and vibrant presence brightened every room she entered.

A celebration of life service will be held at a future date; time and location to be announced. Memorials may be made to a dog rescue group of your choice, the Sedgwick County Zoo, or the American Cancer Society. Share condolences at www.cozine.com. Arrangements by Cozine Memorial Group-Broadway Mortuary.
