Gwen Gordon

Mamma G carried a special fire! A fire that brought light into every room and burned away the discomfort of superficial interaction, hence her name Mamma G. With beauty, brains, boldness, and gentleness it was easy to speak with her about deep personal things and welcome her as a loved one. She believed everything should be taken to God in prayer. She was an intercessor for many and a prayer warrior for all.

Mamma G cared deeply for family and was a pillar even for those that didn’t live around the corner. Distance didn’t separate Mamma G from the people she loved. She will be greatly missed and cherished in the hearts of those who she left behind.

Gwendolyn Anita Gordon, 70, passed away Friday, September 4, 2026. She was born on January 19, 1956 in Brooklyn, New York to Walter and Alneda Stevenson. Gwen is preceded in death by her father; and her loving husband, Leo Gordon. She is survived by her mother; her son and daughter-in-law, Cornelius and Sonia Gordon; siblings, Robert "Bobby" Stevenson, Walter Stevenson Jr, Peter Stevenson, Kathy Banks, and Deborah Woods; grandchildren, Carlitos Garcia, Matthew Garcia, Mariana Garcia, Elijah Gordon, Jacob Garcia, Amy Kirk, Angel Kirk, and Isaiah Gordon; and great-grandchildren, Matthew Garcia, Moses Garcia, and Azariah Bryant.

Service celebrating Mama G's life will be at 10:30am, Tuesday, September 15, at Christ Church - Hilltop Campus. Burial at Resurrection Cemetery will follow the funeral service.

Special Fire

There was a special fire in Mamma G,
a flame the Holy Spirit gave.
It warmed the hearts of those she loved
and lit the path her Savior paved.

She mothered many, loved without measure,
and gave far more than she required.
And though she’s gone, her light remains—
because Heaven doesn’t extinguish
a Holy Spirit fire.

She simply carried it Home.
