Helen Ryan

September 7, 1945 — June 2, 2020

Ryan, Helen Jane, 74, retired Licensed Practical Nurse, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at her home in Benton. She was born September 7, 1945 to the (late) Henry and Gertrude Nachtigal (later Thiessen) in Newton, her father having tragically passed just six days before her arrival.  Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Nachtigal and Gertrude Thiessen; daughter-in-law, Tiffany Ryan; and beloved golden retriever, “Ollie”. Survivors include her children, Tim Ryan, Jeanice Russell (Eric), and Patrick Ryan (Heather); brothers, Leon Thiessen and Dwight Thiessen; sisters, Myrna Cherry and Yvonne Banman; grandchildren, Tabitha, Tanner, Andre', Laeah, and Mia; 3 great-grandchildren; and her current canine companion Harley. She greatly enjoyed crochet, cross stitch, scrap-booking and card-making, but especially the company and companionship of family and friends. Helen had her faith tested and sharpened by a life of highs and lows, and now enjoys the presence and comfort of her Lord and Savior, as well as the earthly father she never had a chance to meet but so longed for.
