James C. "Jim" Baker

James Connett Baker known as Jim to most, and Jimmy Pa to the grandchildren he adored more than anything, joined Jesus in heaven on October 1, 2026.

In one of his favorite songs, the lyrics state "come on in, the door is open" and while this song is talking about entering heaven, it also highlights the life and legacy of Jim. Jim's welcoming spirit, ability to show up for loved ones, helpful heart, and passion for the lord will carry on through all the lives he has so graciously supported. Jim's faith was undeniable and his relationship with Christ served as the solid foundation that carried him through all the peaks and valleys of his life. Jim was not a stranger to hard times but his identity as a Christian allowed him to face those battles head on and always rise to the occasion. While Jim was not the type to pressure people into his faith, he was able to bring many to Jesus through his actions and testimony and this made his heart full.

Jim was born July 20 th , 1953, in Fort Worth, Texas. Two of his favorite childhood activities were playing baseball and fishing, which grew into adult passions like attending Kansas City Royals games and Canadian fishing trips. At the age of seventeen, he met Robin and began the adventure of building his beautiful family. Their children and grandchildren have provided love, laughter, joy, and purpose. His love for his children and baseball collided in this time frame as Jim would play wiffleball with the neighborhood kids and supported Wes and Paul's love of baseball by taking them to camps and coaching some of their teams. Jim has always been an avid dog lover giving many pups the best life they can imagine, from never-ending frisbee throws to only the best toys and treats. Watching the Royals, The Chiefs, and the Jayhawks, while stressful at times, was something that brought happiness and connection with his family. If you were to ask Jim about his greatest accomplishment, he would undoubtably answer his family. His favorite moments over the years included cheering on his grandchildren in any way possible and taking family vacations where everyone could be together.

In his profession, Jim spent over 40 years working in the petro-chemical industry with many of those years spent at Baker Hughes and Jacam Chemicals before starting a career as a consultant in retirement. His work experience included senior level technical support, management, and sales. Jim also held two patents related to chemical applications in the pipeline industry due to his knowledge and ingenuity. Through his work, Jim gained the respect of many and built friendships that meant a great deal to him. A special thank you to his long-time friend Gene Zaid for his unwavering support and for unquestionably giving us more time with him.

Jim was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather Rae and Gary Morrison and a brother Joe Baker.

Jim is survived by his wife Robin Baker of Anthony, KS; daughter Sunny Gates (Eric) of Valley Center, KS.; two sons Wes Baker (Karen) of Norman, OK. and Paul Baker (Alyssa) of Anthony, KS; grandchildren James, Levi, and Lilly Gates, James and Jade Baker, Jordyn and Isla Baker.
