James Lee Smith, 81, retired Master Gunnery Sgt., United States Marine Corps, passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2021. He was born and raised in Kansas before joining the military in 1958. He served his country proudly for 20 years and was a Vietnam War veteran. After retiring from the Marine Corps, he continued his career as an electronics technician at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. Jim was a loyal and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who loved the outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Daisy Smith and brother, George "Sonny" Smith. Survivors include his wife, Elaine Smith; daughters, Kimberly Pettineo (Jeff) and Debra Smith; brother, Charles Smith; and grandsons, Petty Officer Gabriel Longnecker and David "Max" Smith.
