Jamie B. Coulter, Chairman and CEO of Coulter Enterprises, died June 24, 2022 of natural causes at his home in WichitAmerica with His Family by His side. A reception to celebrate his life will take place on Sunday, July 10, 2022 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Wichita Country Club. Respectfully No further gathering will take place post celebration.
Jamie was born on 10/20/1940 to Jamie and Mary (Olive McQuillan) Coulter. He graduated from Wichita East High School and received a BS degree in Business from Wichita State University. He was a graduate of the Stanford University Executive Program.
Jamie served as Chief Executive Officer of Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon, Inc. from January 1992 until the Company was sold in December of 2006. During this period the Company was the IPO of the Year; Forbes Magazine #1 Best Small Company in America for three consecutive years; He was the recipient of the Nation’s Restaurant News Golden Chain Award and its Hot Concept Award for Sullivan’s Steakhouse. Jamie was a member of the Pizza Hut Hall of Fame and a former Restaurants & Institutions CEO of the Year.
Jamie was in the restaurant business for 46 years. Between 1964 and 1980, Jamie and his former partners developed and operated Pizza Hut and Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants as the largest and sixth largest franchisees, respectively.
From 1980 to 1997, Jamie was the sole stockholder, Chairman, and president of various Pizza Hut entities operating Pizza Hut restaurants in several states. These restaurants sold in May 1997.
Jamie was a substantial investor in the oil and gas business for many years, and in 1981 Jamie founded Sunburst Exploration, an oil and gas exploration and production company, where he served as Chairman and CEO until the company was sold in 1994. He remained an active participant in the industry with investments in both public and private companies.
Jamie served as a Director of GeoPark Limited, a publicly traded company on the NYSE; Director of the Federal Law Enforcement Foundation; Director of GeoWealth Holdings, LLC; Director of Realm Cellars; Director of Cirq Estates, LLC; Director of KB Wines, LLC; Member of the Board of Trustees for HCA Wesley Medical Center and Member of the Texas Heart Institute Foundation Board.
Jamie previously served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Young Presidents’ Organization; Director of Empower America; Chairman of the Venice International University of Leadership; Chairman of the Board of the International Pizza Hut Franchise Holders’ Association; Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Friends University; Member of the Board of Advisors of The Wichita State University Center for Entrepreneurship; Member of the Board of Trustees for the University of Kansas School of Business; Director of Intrust Bank, N.A.; Director of Jimmy Johns, LLC and Chairman of the Board of Fox & Hound Restaurant Group.
Jamie was preceded in death by his parents, Jamie and Mary Olive McQuillan Coulter; Sister, Mary Alice Coulter.
He is survived by his wife, Kimberly and their two sons, Cactus Jack and Peter;
Siblings: Sister, Kay Leff, Her Husband George Leff; Sister, Susan Furstenberg, Her Husband Frank Furstenberg; Brother, Joe Coulter, His Wife Linda Coulter; Nephews and Nieces; Aunt, Donna Coulter.
