Janet Scott Nez was born on December 7, 1944, in Winslow, Arizona, and passed away on February 7, 2026, in Wichita, Kansas. She lived a life rooted in faith, service, and love for family and community. Janet was known for her gentle spirit, quiet strength, and the way she made others feel welcomed and cared for. She was the heart of her family, offering guidance, prayer, and unconditional love to each generation.
Janet was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was married to our father, Peter Nez, Sr., and together they were blessed with eight children, 22 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved deeply and unconditionally.
A faithful church attendee, Janet’s love for Christ guided her life and was a constant source of strength. Her faith was evident in how she lived and how she loved others. She found great joy in worship and will be especially remembered for her beautiful singing, which touched hearts, brought comfort, and lifted the spirits of all who heard her.
Janet dedicated part of her life to education, serving as an elementary school teacher at Seba Dalkai Boarding School and Dilkon Boarding School on the Navajo Nation in Arizona. She cared deeply for children and believed in the power of learning, encouragement, and patience. Her work left a lasting impact on the many students she taught and supported over the years.
For the last seven and a half years of her life, Janet lived in Wichita, Kansas, with her daughter Chantal, son-in-law Felipe, and their three children, Tatanka, Lydia, and Quetzalli. During this time, she was surrounded by family, laughter, and the everyday moments she cherished most. She built meaningful relationships within the Wichita community and was deeply loved by many who came to know her. Her kindness, gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and song left a lasting impression on all whose lives she touched.
Janet was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. She is survived by her children- Peter Nez, Jr (Paulina Nez), Patricia Nez Henderson (Jeffrey Henderson), Vernon Nez, Braden Nez (Leah Nez), Priscilla Nez, Erick Nez (Melody Biakeddy), and Chantal Nez Dominguez (Felipe Dominguez), grandchildren (22), great-grandchildren, and many dear friends whose lives were enriched by her love, faith, and kindness. Her legacy lives on through her family, her faith, and the many lives she touched through teaching, worship, and love.
