Baker, Janis N., 78, passed away Feb. 19, 2015. Visitation 6p.m. Monday; Funeral Services 2 p.m. Tuesday, both at Broadway Mortuary. She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett & Hallie Freeburg. Survivors include her loving husband of 44 years, Jerry Baker; sons, Rodney (Larrisa) Johnson; daughter, Sherri Johnson; stepson, Darren Baker; grandchildren, Kelli (Nathan) Lenz, Emily (Anthony) Fasno, Mariah Nathan, Katelyn Nathan, Daniel Johnson, Anthony Nathan & Nicholas Nathan; great-grandchildren, Clara Fern Lenz, Eli Lenz and Solomon Lenz; and sister, Marilyn Shook. Jan worked as a telephone operator for SW Bell telephone and Santa Fe Rails and as nurse’s aide at St. Francis. She later received her CMA certificate and worked at doctor’s private practices before working at The Coleman Co. as a secretary and in the nurse’s stations. She finished her career working for the State of Kansas SRS as a secretary before retiring in Feb. 2002. She, along with her husband, loved to travel first by travel-trailer and later on cruises. She also liked to paint, draw, sew, and cook. Above all, she was an avid book reader. Memorials: Alzheimer’s Association or Rivercross Hospice. Share online condolences at www.CozineMemorial.com.
