Jerry Dale Ellis, age 85, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026.
He was born on January 22, 1941, in Essex, Missouri, to Orville Clyde Ellis and Ollie Cozette (Darby) Ellis-Taylor.
Jerry was raised in Carlinville and Hettick, Illinois, alongside his sisters Jean Hazelwood, Joan Otten, and Janet Sue Burrell, and his stepbrother, Ralph Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
On March 15, 1981, Jerry married the love of his life, Esther (Cummings) Ellis. Together, they shared 45 wonderful years filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
They enjoyed square dancing, golfing, traveling, and most of all, time spent with family.
Jerry retired from Sears, Roebuck and Company in Springfield, Missouri in 1995 after many dedicated years of service. His early retirement allowed him to pursue his passion for square dancing more fully, becoming a caller and teacher. With his beautiful singing voice and impeccable timing, Jerry quickly became a favorite in the square dancing community.
He is survived by his loving wife, Esther of Springfield, MO; his children, Terry Ellis and wife Lisa, Kathy Fisher-Woodring and husband Andy, and Mike Ellis and wife Ginger, all of Wichita, KS; and his cherished grandchildren, Tyler and Andrew Fisher, Zoey and Brock Ellis, Landon Ellis, and Dylan Morch. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
Jerry will be remembered for piercing blue eyes, his warmth, his love of life, and the joy he brought to everyone who knew him.
