Jerry Hardin

Jerry Hardin, cherished husband, devoted father, and revered community member, passed away on May 13, 2025, in his hometown of Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 83. Born on December 31, 1941, Jerry lived a life dedicated to his family and faith, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.

Jerry was a stalwart in both his professional and personal endeavors. He founded Personnel Services, Inc., a successful staffing company that he owned and operated for 27 years. His expertise extended beyond business as he served as a legal expert witness in workers' compensation cases. With an unwavering commitment to guiding others, Jerry was ordained as a minister and played a crucial role in establishing the Marriage and Family Counseling Center at Central Community Church.

His passion for marriage counseling was also reflected in his published works. His notable book, “Getting Ready for Marriage,” which came to prominence in 1992, continues to be appreciated worldwide, available in four languages. Furthermore, he was a contributor to “The Making of a Marriage,” sharing his invaluable insights into one of life’s most significant commitments.

An alumnus of Friends University, Jerry earned a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Counseling, which laid the groundwork for his enriching career in ministry and guidance. His dedication to service extended to his military career where he proudly served as a commissioned officer in the Kansas National Guard, holding roles as an engineer company commander, OCS tactical officer, and helicopter pilot.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jerry was deeply devoted to his family. He shared a loving partnership with his high school sweetheart, Marilynn, with whom he celebrated 61 years of marriage. Together, they raised three sons, Steve, Scott, and Paul, cultivating a close-knit family that thrived on love and shared experiences. Jerry took great pride in being a PaPa to his eight grandchildren, Sam, Edie, Layne, Cole, Clay, Layla, Miles and Clementine, fostering bonds through family vacations, holidays, and countless adventures.

In his leisure time, Jerry enjoyed golfing with friends and his grandsons and sharing laughter over card games. He cherished memories created at their lake house in Oklahoma, their home in Phoenix, and the ranch in Cedar Vale, always seeking new adventures alongside his family.

Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Marilynn; his sons Steve (and daughter-in-law Amy) of Wichita, Scott (and daughter-in-law Lisa) of Kansas City, and Paul (and daughter-in-law Pamela) of Wichita; his grandchildren Sam (and fiancée Devon) of Houston, Edie of Chicago, and Layne, Cole (and granddaughter-in-law Kayli), Clay, and Layla of Kansas City, Miles and Clementine of Wichita; his brother Don (and sister-in-law Rosie) of Wichita; and his nephews Brent and Brian (and their spouses Tracy and Brandi).

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Nelda and Paul Hardin.
