Jim L. Shadid, a beloved Wichita native whose life was marked by warmth, humor, and dedication, passed away peacefully in Wichita, Kansas, on April 12, 2026 with his family and loved ones by his side. Born on November 29, 1937, Jim lived a full and vibrant life, touching the hearts of many with his charisma, charm, and humor.

A proud graduate of East High School, Southwestern Oklahoma State University, and Baylor Dental School, Jim stood out as a point guard on the Baylor Dental School basketball team—a testament to his teamwork and spirited nature. His service as a Captain in the United States Air Force Reserves added another layer to a life characterized by commitment and leadership.

Jim devoted over 50 years of his life to practicing dentistry in Wichita, brightening the lives of his patients. After retiring in 2019, his legacy as a caring and skilled dentist remained firmly established in the community.

Those who knew Jim will most cherish his lighthearted spirit. He was the life of any gathering, effortlessly making people laugh and feel welcome. Whether playing golf, enjoying cards, tending to his garden, savoring cherry pie ala mode, or spending time with his beloved dogs, including Kora, Jim’s joyful outlook and his family-centric values always shone through. Reading westerns was yet another window into his character—rooted in tradition and storytelling.

His proudest accomplishments were undoubtedly his two sons, Todd and Trace Shadid, who survive him, along with his brother Danny Shadid; niece Kaylee Shadid; grandchildren Ava, Alexi, and Aaron Shadid; and dear dog, Kora. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Louise Shadid.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jim’s vibrant life and cherish their memories of him at a visitation with family on Friday, April 17, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Cozine Life Events Center.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with the Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N. Hillside, Wichita, KS 67219.

Jim L. Shadid’s life was a beacon of laughter, love, and kindness—a true lighthearted soul whose memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the honor to know him.
