John Livengood

John Edward Livengood was born November 11, 1951 in Hutchinson, KS to Lawrence and Virginia (Rea) Livengood. While attending Buhler High School (Class of ’69), John lettered in Football, Gymnastics, and Track. After High school, John went on to attend Hutchinson Community College on a football scholarship. Before he was able to complete his degree, John joined the US Navy in April of 1971, in lieu of being drafted.  John was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1973. Later that year John met his future wife, Maralyn Foster. They married on September 18, 1976, and had three boys, Justin, Aaron and William.  Being an alumnus, lifelong KU fan, and basketball season ticket holder, John was elated to see the Jayhawks win their most recent National Championship. John spent 32 years of his life working in the computer industry for Beech, Boeing, NetLessons, Advanced Information Network, and his favorite, Learjet, before retiring to the farm he and Maralyn share. On September 20, 2017, John began the fight of his life, against Leukemia. After many trips to doctors all over the country, multiple courses of treatment, and many momentary victories; John was tired. He gathered his family and let them know he was going to change the course and prepare for the next plane of existence. John passed peacefully at home on April 9, 2022. The last days of his life were packed full of visits from family and friends. Proceeding John in death are his parents, Lawrence and Virginia Livengood, many friends, and family pets. Those left to mourn his passing include wife, Maralyn; sons, Justin (Shanel), Aaron (Kerri Walker), and William (Rachel); brothers, Clayton (Sharon) Livengood, Steve (Sue) Livengood, Brad (Pam) Livengood; sister, Marsha Baldridge; Grandchildren, Aiden Rupp, Will Rupp, and Emerson Livengood; numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends. We invite everyone who knew John to celebrate his life at Cozine Life Events Center on Friday, April 9th at 2pm. Following the service, the family would like to invite John’s friends for light appetizers at Chicken and Pickle from 3:30 to 6:30pm.  John’s family members would like to extend our appreciation to honorary pallbearers David, Karen and Ashley Lundblade, Tom Lewellen, Mel Barker, Eldon Epp, Shelia Malay, and Brett Dearmore. “… Since you are [reading this], it means I have lost my battle. No more solutions to seek. My love has been given and I am off to the next plane of existence. I can only hope that you cherish the time we had together, and you felt the love I had to give.
