Johnsie Buller

Johnsie Buller, 86, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2026, in Wichita. Johnsie was born the daughter of John & Pearl Just on September 30, 1939, in Hillsboro, KS. She lived in Aulne, Wichita, and Marion, graduating from Marion High School in 1957. Johnsie earned her nursing degree from Halstead School of Nursing in 1960. On March 7, 1964, she married Jerry Buller in Marion, and together they made their home and raised their family in Halstead.

Johnsie enjoyed a long and fulfilling nursing career working at hospitals and clinics in Emporia, Wichita, Newton, and spending the majority of her career at Hertzler Clinic in Halstead. Her servant’s heart shone in the way she cared for others – both as a nurse and in every aspect of her life. During her years in Halstead, she was active in Halstead United Methodist Church and Club Charmant, continuing to meet with her “club” ladies regularly until just a few months before her passing.

Family was everything to Johnsie. She poured her heart into raising her three children, prioritizing meaningful time with each of them. She was always there to celebrate their accomplishments and support them through life’s challenges. She wasn’t just a mom to Kendall, Anne, & Eric, but to all their childhood friends as well. As grandparents, she and Jerry found so much joy in spending time with their grandchildren, hosting sleepovers, and attending as many of their events as possible. Even as her health declined, Johnsie traveled to make it to many of their birthdays, graduations, and weddings.

Jerry and Johnsie enjoyed traveling together, visiting all 50 states as well as Mexico, Brazil, and Liberia, West Africa. After retirement, they spent seven years traveling in their fifth wheel, routinely stopping at their favorite locations. During this time, they met some amazing people and developed friendships that continued long after the traveling ended. After their travels, they settled in Wichita and enjoyed working part-time at Meridian Grocery in Newton. In her final years, Johnsie lived in long-term care where – even as she required more assistance - she found ways to serve others. Getting around in her wheelchair, she delivered mail throughout the facility, visiting with residents along the way. She enjoyed talking all-things nursing with the staff, who cared for her with love and dignity through the end of her life.

Johnsie was a member of First United Methodist Church, Wichita. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Jerry Buller; her parents, John & Pearl Just; brothers, Keith Just and Richard Ray Just; and grandchild, Sekou Buller. She is survived by her children, Kendall (Kim) Buller, Anne (Kyle) Penner, and Eric (Pam) Buller; sister-in-law, Nancy Just; grandchildren, Kensley and Kaleb Buller, Derek (Katie) Blochlinger, Caitlin (Prescott) Evans, Caleb (Astrid) Shaefer, Jackson and William Penner, Jake (Samantha) Buller-Young, Alex (Brian) Buller-Parker, Beth (Peter Loganbill) Buller, and Lucy, Theo, Peter, and Ruby Buller; and three great-grandchildren.
