Joyce McBride

Joyce (Joy) Elaine McBride, 96, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2026. She was born on July 31, 1930 to parents, John and Jennie Bell. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James McBride; son, Paul Leth; and brother, Keith Bell. She is survived by her children, Carl Leth, Linda High, and Michael Leth; sister, Verla Allen; 13 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

Joy's father participated in the Cherokee Strip land rush as a child. Her mother was a schoolteacher in a one-room schoolhouse on the prairie. Joy reflected that frontier spirit in her resilience and determination throughout her life. As a mother of four children, she went back to school to become a Registered nurse, leading her class of younger students, going on to serve others as an R.N. for 25 years. She was a talented violinist, playing with college and community orchestras. She was also a gifted artist, demonstrating her talent in a variety of mediums. Her poetry appeared on a recurring basis in a national publication. She leaves behind the results of extensive genealogical research and her compelling accounts of formative episodes in her life. Characteristic of her gracious spirit she determined to record only the positive experiences, leaving hurtful or negative experiences to be forgotten.

Her Memorial Service will be held at Church of the Savior, 875 N. Spaulding Ave, Wichita, on Saturday, October 17, at 10:00.

In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to Church of the Savior Legacy Ministries.

Burial will be at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Wichita, Kansas.
