Kathy J. Shartzer, Kate or Nana, 67, passed away September 19, 2022, unexpectedly due to heart complications. Kathy was a proud organ donor and her spirit will live on. Kathy was born on July 14, 1955, to Joseph and Lula Mae (Tucker) Cochran in Independence, KS. Kathy grew up in Independence, marrying David on July 14, 1973. After having children, Kathy got her cosmetology license.  She was very proud to be Native American, Cherokee Nation. Kathy was very active within her local VFW Post 112 and YMCA.  She loved crafting, sewing, gardening, and spending time with loved ones.

Kathy is survived by her husband of 49 years, David; son, Chad Shartzer (Rachel) of Abilene, Rebecca (Shartzer) Bise (Steve) of Radcliff, KY; 5 grandchildren; Trevor, Carter, and Chasyn Shartzer; Dakota and Ty Bise,; one brother, Russell; sisters, Sue, Connie, Billie, and Ellen.  Also birth mother to Chad (Chrissy) Cook of Abilene and aunt to many others. She was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents; her parents, Joesph and Lula (Tucker) Cochran; sisters, Janice and Joyce; one niece, Jessica; and one nephew, Dustin.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, September 24, at Broadway Mortuary, 1147 S. Broadway. Share condolences at www.cozine.com. Services by Cozine Memorial Group-Broadway Mortuary.
