Kevin Owen Larson was born May 7, 1964 in Schenectady, New York to parents Richard and Shirley Larson. He grew up with a love of God’s creation and a keen sense of adventure in both New York and Minnesota, along with his siblings, Karen and Ken. He graduated from Wheaton College with a BA in Economics in 1986 and earned his MBA from the University of Minnesota in 1990. He began his career in accounting at North Park College in Chicago, where he met and married his wife, Cheryl. Kevin’s first job in corporate finance was with Ford Motor Company and he recently retired from NWI Aerostructures as CFO in Wichita, Kansas. During their 38 years of marriage, they raised 4 children: Ben, Peter, Elise and Sarah. On March 9, 2026, after 3 years persevering through a battle with pancreatic cancer, Kevin went to be with Jesus.
Kevin was faithful and loving to his family and friends, ready with wise words, generous, a good listener, witty, welcoming to all, deeply thoughtful, and always humble and kind. His faith in God was very strong, with a first focus on serving those who often go unnoticed. His proudest accomplishment was raising his children in the Lord and providing for them. He loved making memories on family vacations that often included one big adventuresome outing. Even during his cancer battle, he loved exploring new cities and countries with Cheryl. He was known for tossing his homemade pizza dough with his kids (his first job at Godfather’s Pizza paid off), loving ice cream on any occasion, walks on the Redbud trail, family bike rides, and fishing and boating at the lake. Every morning, he could be found sipping hot black coffee in his Swedish mug and every night, reading God’s Word before bed. Throughout his life, he lived out his faith as a dedicated leader, teacher, and servant in many churches as his career moved them around. He constantly taught others and could easily meander into conversation on anything from the history of a city to theology to sports trivia. During his cancer journey, his conversations centered on readily sharing his faith with others at the oncology clinics. He was a loyal friend, and cherished the many new friends he made recently throughout his cancer journey.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 38 years, Cheryl, children Benjamin Larson, Peter Larson (Kate), Elise Wilson (Grant), Sarah Walters (Aaron), grandchildren Emmaline Walters, Bethany Wilson, and Ingrid Larson, his mother Shirley Larson, siblings Karen Belling (Paul), Ken Larson (Laurel), in-laws Donald and Middy Crellin, brother-in-law John Crellin (Lori), sister-in-law Beth Roehr (Scott), and 4 nephews and 6 nieces. His father, Richard Larson, passed away before him in 2019.
His celebration of life will be held 3 years to the day from his original cancer diagnosis on April 3, 2026 at 1:00PM at First Evangelical Free Church (1825 N. Woodlawn, Wichita, KS 67208).
