Larry Bontrager, 79, of Wichita, Kansas, entered into Glory on September 19, 2026 surrounded by his daughters.
Larry was born on November 14, 1946, in Thomas, Oklahoma, to Alvin and Anne Bontrager. His family moved to Belle Plaine, KS, where he spent the remainder of his school-age years. Larry is survived by his daughters, Lori Fisher (Matt), Lisa Meyer (David), and daughter of the heart Nicole Ressel (Martin); his cherished grandchildren, Caleb Fisher (Lauren), Kaylee Meyer,Abigail Fisher, Evan Meyer, Emily Meigs (Jacob), Noah Ressel, Frieda Ressel, and great-grandson Jake Meigs. Larry is also survived by his siblings, Harry Bontrager (Louise), Anita Barngrover (William), Gerald Bontrager (Kay), and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Bontrager; parents, Alvin and Anne Bontrager; brother, Garry Bontrager.
Larry proudly and honorably served his country during the Vietnam era in the United States Army National Guard, entering service on July 24, 1966. Called to active duty in 1968 as an infantryman, he earned the rank of Private First Class (E-4), Promotable and achieved the distinction of Sharpshooter with a rifle. He earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. After completing active duty in December 1969, he returned home to continue his dedicated service with the Kansas Army National Guard, fulfilling his military obligation until May 23, 1972.
After his service, Larry worked for the aerospace industry as a Senior Purchasing Manager. He was known for his faith in Almighty God, the love of his family, his sense of humor, and how he showed kindness to everyone he met. He will be remembered by many who enjoyed visiting with him and his sweet dog, Izzy.
A Celebration of Life service will occur on Monday, October 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at Central Community Church, 6100 W. Maple, Wichita, Kansas, 67209. Visitation with the family will begin one hour before the service. To watch the service on live stream, please visit www.central community church/funerals Larry will be remembered with military honors following the service at the Chapel.
