Les graduated high school from Larned, Kansas. Les grew up farming with his family. He raised turkeys to sell. He went into the army for 2 years, and was stationed in Boston, Massachusetts. He then moved back to Wichita and went to work for Boeing, the last time he would ever work for any company. He began a lifetime career of building and selling residential and commercial properties in Kansas and Arizona. Les also built and owned several self-storage projects in Kansas and Arizona. Some of Les' career highlights include holding a patent for a process he developed, which aided in asphalt road repair; being responsible for bringing Popeye's to Wichita; and overseeing several successful multi-family real estate projects.

He married Helen Stomp and together had four sons. A second marriage to Sue Cox and had a fifth son, Anthony. His final marriage was to Barbara for 24 years, and they enjoyed many happy years of traveling around the world and spending time at their home in Arizona.

His Life Master Level of Bridge lead him to many tournaments across the United States. Due to his avid love of gardening, he built 26 raised garden beds that produced many pounds of produce that fed many friends and family. He has been in declining health the last few years, but continued to travel until Covid struck. He had wanted to return to El Paso and Phoenix, but was unable to do so.
